Restorative and Yin Yoga

Using our practice to elevate the emotion 'joy' today. When we elevate positive emotions we raise our frequency, uplift our mood and boost our energy. Working our bodies into the smile poses today with an emphasis on side body awareness. Creating shape in those often neglected parts of the body. EnJOY!. Get your props ready - lots of cushions, bolster if you have one.

Using the next few hours of deep relaxation to take time out for yourself, to find some spaciousness of being and to become quiet, all acts of ‘self care’ which as we know is vital for our health and wellbeing in this modern day world. The theme is, deep inner peace… a state or feeling that we’re not looking for, we’re not trying to find peace, but rather come to be ‘in’.You will need to lots of cushions, blankets, a belt or a dressing gown tie, something to cover your eyes. Most importantly, if you haven't got a bolster then either a firm sofa cushion or two firm bed pillows rolled in a blanket to create a long bolster shape will do to support your head and spine in the poses.

A Yin Yoga practice where you will hold floor based positions for longer periods of time to work deeper into the body past the muscles to the denser, connective tissues such as tendons, ligaments, fascia, joint capsules and bones to increase flexibility and tone. As you hold poses for time you can use mindfulness to stay present with the breath using each pose as a mini meditation. Holding space for whatever come up for you be it sensations, thoughts or feelings offering yourself care and sensitivity.

A restorative practice cultivating self love. Use these 2 hours to find ease of being and gently open your heart space to cultivate the heart quality of love. When we treat ourselves with loving kindness it helps us to maintain inner peace.

Please see below for props needed from around the home:

Recording of live zoom class. Using our practice of yin, diving into our softer inner world, the breath and bodily sensations to be embodied moment by moment. Feeling the generosity of the present moment.

Using this heart opening sequence to cultivate loving kindness for ourselves. Meeting whatever comes up through our practice, whether thats sensations, feelings, or emotions with a loving awareness and acceptance.

A live recording of my Winters Rest Evening of Restorative Yoga. Two and a half hours of relaxation inducing yoga and Yoga Nidra perfect for a winters night. Relaxation is imperative to your health and wellbeing so give yourself this much needed time to relax and restore. You will need to lots of cushions, blankets, a belt or a dressing gown tie, something to cover your eyes. Most importantly two firm bed pillows rolled in a blanket to create a bolster shape to support your head and spine in the poses. Enjoy this rest.

A floor based practice whereby we hold poses for 3-5 minutes working deeper into the connective tissues in the body to find space, length and joint flexibility. Yin yoga is also thought to work on the meridian energy lines in the body which carry Chi or life force energy through the body promoting optimal function and health. In this practice we are stimulating the liver and gallbladder meridians of the body to enhance the function of detoxification and purification of those organs to leave you feeling decluttered, refreshed and renewed. A Spring Clean!
A step by step guide into one of my favourite yoga poses Viparita Karani. A combination of an inversion to rejuvenate and calm the mind, a backbend to open the heart space and re-energise the body, and restorative to sooth the nervous system and boost your immune system. NB you can replace bolsters with 2 x bed pillows wrapped in a blanket, yoga blocks for hard back books and the yoga belt for a soft belt or dressing gown tie.

Get your props ready! For this 2 hour immersion into stillness. Relaxation is vital for our health and wellbeing; we just don't do it enough. In this 2 hour evening of restorative yoga you will be gently guided to let go, to let go of tension in the body, let go of the incessant thoughts playing through your mind. Just loosening the grip we all try to have over this ever changing world we live in and allowing things to be as they are just for now as we rest back In stillness. Feeling the release and sense of ease as we surrender into that place. Please see below for props needed from around the home:1. A bolster can be made by wrapping 2 bed pillows in a firm blanket. 2. A rolled duvet 3. A rolled blanket 4. 3 cushions (one for your head) 5. Instead of yoga blocks 4 large books 6. A chair 7. A strap/ belt/or dressing gown tie 8. Using this very quiet practice of holding poses in stillness to find simplicity in our practice and in our lives. Can we stay present with our breathing, can we allow sensations to be just as they are for now, can we use the least effort to hold poses. We don't need to overcomplicate things Yin yoga teaches us this skill.
